PTC Windchill for Arbortext Content Management

Manage Arbortext content with PTC's Windchill.

An integral component of the PTC Dynamic Publishing System, PTC Windchill manages Arbortext content and provides a single source of information, maintains control at every component level, preserves component relationships, and provides configuration management capabilities to enable organizations to optimize their publishing process. Arbortext content management in Windchill contains enhanced integration and increased interoperability with the Arbortext product line.

Arbortext Editor, Arbortext Publishing Engine, and Windchill work together to enable automatic, on-demand delivery of up-to-the-minute information that aligns exactly with the product’s specific configuration and the reader’s specific needs.

Windchill is doctype agnostic, but if you're using DITA, it's got special features to support you.

Windchill supports all types of files. XML, SGML, Video, Graphics, DITA, MIL-SPEC, text, etc. It doesn't specify a preference because it's neutral until you tell it what you need. It's configurable.

However, there are some special features for DITA content. You can build DITA documents inside Windchill which means deliverables can be completely built inside the repository.

You can create templates (stub documents) for topics and structures that match the types of content (and the order of their appearance) that meet the unique content your company delivers.

Windchill is aware of DITA content types, and can be configured to make searching the repository easier for content authors to find that shared content without having to resort to full-text search or encoded filenames to find that Concept about Troubleshooting Product X.

You can set up workflow, approval processes, and automated publishing processes for multiple output types. In fact, you can generate any output type directly from the Windchill interface without ever having to open the map, bookmap, or topic.

This can be super helpful for reviewers who want to see the content — at whatever stage in the greater corporate content delivery process — without being required to generate it themselves. And they don't need access permission to the content just to get a representation of it.

Windchill supports your whole business

Windchill is PTC's production-proven content and process management software. Information stored in Windchill helps you look at the organization as a whole, not just technical publications, so that you get a complete picture of all of the groups that intersect with information creation and delivery.
