Single-Sourcing Solutions, the Arbortext Experts

Abstract:

The OASIS DITA standard began with IBM and it began in Arbortext. PTC/Arbortext was the only vendor invited to be a charter member of the Oasis DITA Technical Committee and participates on that committee today.

With the 5.4 release in 2010, Arbortext added support for DITA 1.2 which introduced the “keyref” feature which provides a powerful indirect addressing mechanism as well as the possibility for sophisticated conditional profiling/processing of content.

As Kristen Eberlein, co-chair, OASIS DITA Technical Committee at OASIS, wrote, “Attribute-based conditional processing is a powerful feature that enables content reuse, but in a large set of documents, content can become difficult to maintain due to the number of variables. The use of keys greatly simplifies authoring and production of conditional content.”

Indeed. Keyref is a significant improvement in working with and processing DITA content. In this presentation, we will explore the capabilities of the keyref feature in Arbortext.

Who should come? Anyone interested in moving to DITA now or in the future, anyone who has already begun that transition but is looking for a better way, and anyone who is just plain curious.

Single-Sourcing Solutions, the Arbortext Experts

Abstract:

Arbortext is more than an Editor. Arbortext is really a full platform from editing to publishing and content management. Arbortext is the only fully-functional, end-to-end, pure XML, enterprise-level DITA solution.

In this presentation, Liz Fraley is going to show Arbortext Editor 6.0 (with maybe a little bit about Styler thrown in). We’ll focus on usability improvements and enhancements for DITA support. There are a lot of new changes that everyone who’s an everyday user has been happy to see.

The OASIS DITA standard began with IBM and it began in Arbortext. PTC/Arbortext was the only vendor invited to be a charter member of the OASIS DITA Technical Committee and still participates on that committee today. IBM Editing staff continues to use Arbortext Editor as well. Support for DITA 1.2 was available as early as the 5.4 M50 Release in June of last year.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in moving to DITA now or in the future, anyone who has already begun that transition but is looking for a better way, and anyone who is just plain curious.

Reuse That!

Abstract:

Did you know there is a new renaissance on the horizon? We are thrilled to see, more and more, a new enthusiasm about content creation to publication. We are all familiar with the words “content reuse” and “xml authoring” and “single-source” and “topic based authoring”. But all this talk is now coming from outside the walls of traditional tech pubs. It is starting to get a great deal of attention from the more creatively focused departments of Sales and, more notably, Marketing.

Now is the time for us to break down the walls that once divided the teams that create content. But how do you do that? Don’t sell yourself short! Those of you who have built your profession around the technology of creation and delivery have gained a great deal of insight. This expertise makes you a valuable resource for those seeking to adopt practices that are now like second nature to you.

About Lightning Talks

Where Are They Now?

Presentation “Where Are They Now?”

Presented by:

Liz Fraley, Single-Sourcing Solutions, Inc.

Presented at:

Content Management Strategies Conference 2010

Abstract: There’s a software side to dynamic information delivery. We all know this. Customers who have seen IBM talk have come to us and said “Sure, they can get there, but can I?” What if you’re not a software company? What if your paper product is your deliverable? What about the Medtronics of the world? Or the Harcourt School Publishers? Or the National Council on Insurance? What’s in your reach? What have they really achieved over the years? Did they see the ROI they expected? Over the last year, Single-Sourcing Solutions has spent time interviewing long-term Arbortext customers to find out where they are now. We wanted to know whether our customers were realizing the full potential of their solutions. We wanted to know what data they’d collected, what lessons they’d learned, and what they’d implemented over time. This talk highlights success stories from companies who have been doing dynamic information delivery for a very long time. Not one at a time, but aggregated together. We will include qualified, hard data on benefits, breadth of projects, and feature impact on long-term implementations.
