Single-Sourcing Solutions, the Arbortext Experts

Abstract:

Arbortext is more than an Editor. Arbortext is really a full platform from editing to publishing and content management. Arbortext is the only fully-functional, end-to-end, pure XML, enterprise-level DITA solution.

In this presentation, Liz Fraley is going to show Arbortext Editor 6.0 (with maybe a little bit about Styler thrown in). We’ll focus on usability improvements and enhancements for DITA support. There are a lot of new changes that everyone who’s an everyday user has been happy to see.

The OASIS DITA standard began with IBM and it began in Arbortext. PTC/Arbortext was the only vendor invited to be a charter member of the OASIS DITA Technical Committee and still participates on that committee today. IBM Editing staff continues to use Arbortext Editor as well. Support for DITA 1.2 was available as early as the 5.4 M50 Release in June of last year.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in moving to DITA now or in the future, anyone who has already begun that transition but is looking for a better way, and anyone who is just plain curious.

About the Presenter:

Before founding Single-Sourcing Solutions, Liz worked in both high-tech and government sectors, developing and delivering technical  design and strategy of authoring and publishing solutions as a  Single-Source/XML Architect/Programmer. For over a decade, she has  architected and implemented the single-sourcing systems for government  and high tech companies. Specializing in practical development and deployment, she is a strong advocate of designing architectures that  directly improve organizational efficiency, productivity, and  interoperability.

She presents regularly at industry and vendor conferences and is very  active in the software engineering user communities: SF Bay ACM council  member, SF Bay Arbortext PTC/User group charter member, and host of  both a blog and a podcast that focus on strategies, skills, and  resources for the user community.

She holds degrees in Computer Science and English from the University  of College Park and a Masters in English from the University of  Southern Mississippi.

Here’s where to find her online:

Break down the walls!

Abstract:

So you are finally planning that big move over to structured content. Great! You understand the benefits of reuse and what it means for your business.

But what do you do about the mountains of legacy content? Pack it all up and bring it with you? Leave it behind hoping you will never need to look at it again? Work in two worlds of structured (for the new content) and unstructured (for the old data) authoring?

In this FREE one hour session we will talk about the options you have for handling all of that old data. Like the Sherpa guides of Nepal, we can help you. In this session we will share with you what you will need to help you on the journey, what to plan for, and some hard won lessons learned along the way.

No time to attend, then register to receive your access to the recorded session!

Break down the walls!

Abstract:

Your information content is a critical business asset. It is a key differentiator of you, your organization, and what you have to offer customers.

For some, it is the first introduction you have to potential new customers and for the rest an integral tool in retaining and expanding your existing customer relationships.

Traditionally people have viewed content in isolated silos. Separating marketing and product management from the engineering development from support services. In today’s market place, leaders have taken a transformative approach and have broken down the archaic barriers to allow for a dynamic flow of information and collaboration while still maintaining a high level of visibility into all facets of the lifecycle. How? By changing the way they manage content!

Join Single-Sourcing Solutions as we discuss what true component-level content management can do for you and your bottom line. We will give you tips and pointers of key things to look for when evaluating solutions and red flags to avoid.

Monster Garage Schedule

January|February|March|April|May|June|July|August|September|October|November|December

Welcome to the Arbortext Monster Garage!

There are a million “Uber Geeky” things you can do in Arbortext. Here at Single-Sourcing Solutions, we always talk about the ease of use and the out-of-the box advantages to Arbortext suite of products. What we don’t spend enough time with is talking about the cool things you can do with it.

  • Arbortext is a mature platform: The entire set of tools works together.
  • Arbortext is open: The entire UI and publishing pipeline is 100% available through a well-tested API.

The possibilities are enormous for anyone who wants to do new, interesting, over-the-top things with their product information.

Of course, for us this comes as second nature, but for those of you out there who are new to the eco-system, it may not be so apparent.  We decided to start a new web series featuring the Open API and the “geeky” things you can do with Arbortext. You’ll find knowledgeable mechanics, here. Many of our shop coaches have been working with the product for a decade or more.

Put on your shop coat, because here we go….
